Our vision for the future is supported by over 20 years of success. Conservation Alabama has proven that environmental policy matters, and by informing, engaging, and empowering Alabamians we can protect our land, water, air, and communities.

Conservation Alabama is a statewide leader in the effort to protect public lands. By building and leading broad coalitions of public lands supporters, Conservation Alabama helped renew the popular Forever Wild Land Trust for another 20 years, and passed a constitutional amendment to permanently protect funding for state parks. Since then, we’ve repeatedly defended Alabama’s public lands from budget cuts, and shown lawmakers that any attacks on Forever Wild will be met with public outrage and swift defeat.

Since our founding in 1999, Conservation Alabama has prevented 95% of bills that would harm our environment from passing. Our recent legislative wins include blocking landfill companies from using toxic substances to cover trash, lowering fees and expanding infrastructure for electric vehicles, and defeating a bill that would have prevented local communities from making decisions about how to manage plastic pollution.

We have built a powerful statewide network of conservation voters. Conservation Alabama is one of the only conservation organizations in Alabama that has the infrastructure and tools to launch sophisticated advocacy campaigns that connect Alabama’s conservation voters to decision makers and affect environmental policy across the state. We know from experience that when our members speak, elected officials hear them loud and clear.

Our work has made Alabama a healthier place to live. Conservation Alabama successfully advocated for the protection of your drinking water by reducing the amount of cancer-causing chemicals emitted into Alabama’s waterways. We spearheaded an initiative that improved safety in neighborhoods and communities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists alike, and reduced your exposure to second-hand smoke by helping pass comprehensive smoke-free laws in five municipalities.
